I finished another seven dwarfs this weekend. It took me a little longer this time mainly because I did a tutorial on how I paint their faces but also because I missed out some items and had to paint them later on- which of course kills the benefit of my assembly line painting. In the end I did another test with snow basing by adding some blue to the basic snow. I think I will make a tutorial on the way I do it now next week. So long.

Edit: I also updated my schelude since I receved another bunch of Vostroyan special weapons and therefor rearanged the order in which to paint the models.

When speaking of character killing nothing does better than an angry Zoanthrope. I field a slot of three normally because I just need the AP 2 shots. At 18" range it's tank hunting skills are at least "moderate" but when it comes to do harm to wraithlords or other monstrous creatures they are the brood for the job. To better know them apart I modeled colorful mushrooms on their base and made them drool (pva glue and pattex)
I later added an addtitional model- an old one for bigger games and double tournaments.
PSI corps anyone?

Since I haven't been idle this weekend I can show you part 1 of the upcoming Clone wars. I call them Clones because I paint them in an assembly line- so all of the models of one type at a time. This time these were 7 models in total. I must admit that the paintscheme in it's current version is rather excessive - I think I were about 30 different steps including basing- maybe a little over the top for the requested standard.

Since Tuesday is December 1.st I thought I would post a little something I found on the web. I don't know who it is from but I really like the humor. Last month to be a faithful Space Marine ;)

On a sidenote: I will not manage to get my Space Wolve entry in for the contest which ends tommorow. The fault is all mine since I played too much Left 4 Dead 2 this wek- but am kinda hooked and it's really fun to have your best friends play it with you. Good news is, I am still on time for my comissions.

Bred for only one reason: Keep the Tyrant alive. They do this job quiet well. I only had one game so far where they went down. In all other games the sheer amount of 8 toughness 6 wounds is enough to scare of the enemy. They also come in handy when thins get close and personal.

Similar to Frankenstein`s monster this guy was created form leftovers of several other kits includin an old Hivetyrant, Carnifexparts and a lot off putty. The legs were the trickiest part since I constructed them from scything talons and crushing claws.
The weaponloadout on him is a Venom cannon and two twinlinked devourers for effect. With the lots of holoflacons out there since the eldar codex came out in 2007 it became apparent that my army has a need for more antotank weapons. The second Hivetyrant is the answer to that demand since it can pop most tanks with his 3 Strength 8 shots. Since he is not that resilient he normally is accompanied by a retinue...

Warriors: The backbone of the synapse feature and therefor an essential part of my army setup. I equipped them with scything talons and rending claws so that an opponent thinks twice before assaulting them. 4 warriors will have the job of making my broods fearless- everything else is of secondary concern and a bonus. I love the models by the way.
Later on I equipped one squad to do some shooting damage. While holdig synapse range one barbed strangeler can do some damage although it`s only strength 4 when used by a warrior. But when hitting so soft but highpricy target (whychcult or Harlequins,...) it can save the day.

Sniperfex. Called like this because of it's skills in killing tanks from a distance it's venom cannon - barbed strangler mix makes short work of armour at 36". And as tough as one can wish for it even frightens Characters , Obliterators and alike because of the potential to insta-kill them. Again, I have more of them since I played a lot of Nidzilla in 2008.

The Termagaunts equipped with fleshboarers are my second choice. With a strength of 4 in shooting, they can harm nearly every infantry the opponent can field and even most tanks when they get to their rear armor. On the other side they cost a mere 6 points which makes them expandable to say the least.
They performed so well over the first year of playing nids that I now have 60 of them. For the sake of sanity I painted three squads of 20 with different colormarkings.

The unit I can just not begin to like are the Hormagaunts. Although being very nice models, the ingame performance can just not make me like them. They seem to have quite a big footprint and collect fire like hell- which they can absolutely not stand. For some reason they nearly ever reach closecombat where they might be worth their points.

Nevertheless I have 24 and still experiment with them from time to time- most of the time equipping them with toxin sacks. The clue seems to be to throw them at something they can eat as fast as possible- if they only collect fire one turn they are done for.
